Facilities
The Birken residence (vihara) provides nearly 10,000 sq.ft. of living space, including a spectacular meditation hall overlooking the surrounding forest and bird sanctuary. The main building has a walking meditation hall as well as a library and eating area in the basement, a large kitchen, guest rooms, and 4 shared bathrooms.
Monastics live in individual cabins (kutis). During some periods, a kuti may be available for guest use. These have propane heaters, but no electricity, water, or toilet facilities; and are 2 minutes to 10 minutes walk from the main building. Those hoping to stay in a kuti can indicate this on the Birken registration form.
Depending on demand, guest rooms may be private or shared. Men's and women's quarters are separate.
We note expressed preferences for accommodation and attempt to honor them, but can make no promises, as conditions change.
