Ajahn Sumedho to visit BC, June-July 2010
Ajahn Sumedho (affectionately known as Luang Por) has been a monk for over 40 years, and is one of the most senior western Theravada monks alive today. His wisdom and leadership are responsible for bringing Ajahn Chah's teaching and monastic community to thousands of people in the west. We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity of receiving teaching from a senior monk with so much experience and accomplishment.
Ajahn Sumedho will be giving a talk in Vancouver on Saturday June 26 at Langara College
TIME & DATE: Saturday June 26, 6:30 to 8:00 PM (time moved up a half hour)
TITLE: "Buddhism in the West".
LOCATION: Newberry Hall (room A130), A Building,
Langara College, 100 W.49th Ave,
Vancouver V5Y 2Z6.
There is no registration, but if people can let us know they intend to come it will help in knowing
the final number. They can send an e-mail to Jim at placzek66@gmail.com.
Ajahn Sumedho is scheduled to visit Birken June 28 - July 7. We look forward to welcoming him and offering him a low-key and restful visit with the monastic community. There are no teachings for lay people scheduled during this time, and we do not plan to schedule any. There may be some spontaneous teachings.
There will be very limited accommodation for lay folks at Birken during this time, and priority for rooms at Birken will go to monastic visitors, long-time supporters of Birken, and those wishing to offer dana meals.
We are now considering bookings for lay visitors during Ajahn Sumedho's visit. The maximum stay is 5 days. Send in a registration form if you would like to visit, and Ajahn Sona will review requests after his return to Birken May 17.
You might also consider looking into accommodation at Roche Lake resort or consider staying in Kamloops & coming out for day visits. If you wish to join us for a midday meal, please let us know well in advance.
