Birken’s $70,000 Project: Major Insulation Upgrade to our Main Building
In April this year we updated you on our upcoming summer projects. Now we have more news to share.
We received an initial donation of $20,000 for the insulation addition to our Vihara (main building). This upgrade was carefully considered to reduce our energy consumption in the extreme climate of the mountains of British Columbia, Canada, where temperatures can range from minus 40C (-40F) to plus 40C (104F). The project required additional insulation and new siding to the exterior of our 10,000 square foot main building. Much of the labor was provided by generous volunteers, so material costs were the primary expense.
Costs Still Remaining: $50,000
We have gone ahead and completed the upgrade which required a further $50,000 in construction deficit spending. To see a video of the project, just click on the photo at left or this link. If you’d like to contribute towards the costs of this monastery project, please see our Support page for the many ways you can give. Be sure to note “INSULATION PROJECT” on your donation, whether it is made through CanadaHelps, Interac e-transfer, by cheque or cash. To all our donors, old and new, we want to express our immense gratitude for your continuing support.
Anumodana! We rejoice in your tremendous generosity and great merit!
